The Cinch Back Pack (A studio Cherie Design)

Multi Size Drawstring Backpack

I love these back packs.  I had not been a fan of drawstring back packs but they’ve been calling my name since I’ve been seeing everyone and their mother wearing them at my local amusement park.  Cherie just had to come out with the most adorable design of a drawstring back pack. After making my first one, I fell in love with it. It really is a simple, quick (after the first couple) and addictive project.

I wanted to make one for my son but the original finished size of the back pack would’ve been too big for my 6yr old.  Therefore, I decided that I wanted to make it in a smaller size.

To make the smaller version, I shrunk the pattern to 80% to come up with my small version that seemed to fit my son perfectly.  Then I did one at 90% and came up with my medium version.  For grins, I did one at 70% but it was just too small (could work for a really small toddler though) but I opt to keep what I felt would be my final small and medium size.

I must say the upholstery welting used on the bag is brilliant and I love how it keeps its shape.  Yes, I did try to use the store bought piping but it didn’t give me the same look, however, it would still work if you decided you wanted to use that instead.

There is a front zippered pocket that I love on this back pack but I didn’t add one on my son’s back pack.  I really didn’t feel like dealing with a smaller pocket on the small version so I left it off.

I did not make any major modifications except add the exterior fabric to the top section of the back.  Other than that I kept to the instructions and I love how they all turned out.

All three sizes worn:

Uaviles from Sew Fine Studio made some gorgeous back packs using Cherie’s pattern as well.  I love the fabrics she selected.  She did an amazing job and they look wonderful.  How could you not want one?  🙂

Thank you Cherie for designing a fun and hip back pack!  I’ll definitely be making more of these.
